International Potluck Day 2014

INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK DAY 2014 

On Wednesday, November 19, HANAC ISY held the 2014 International Potluck Day! Members from HANAC had all brought food to the program that ranged from delicious pies and cookies to traditional cuisines that represented a variety of culture in the program.

These traditional cuisines allowed HANAC members to taste different foods and also learn more about one's culture. The International Potluck Day at HANAC had also created an incredible and friendly environment where everyone could eat food while having fun with friends. 

HANAC members also had the chance to write their names on the white board for fun and choose what music to play throughout the party.

Teensgiving 2014

On Sunday, November 16, 2014, five HANAC members had participated in New York City's largest one-day community service event: Teensgiving. HANAC members selflessly gave up their own time to volunteer a cleanup mission for Riverside Park at West 87th Street. Activities we participated were: 

1) Raking leaves off the park's pathway

2) Painting lamp posts located around the Dog Park 

3) Maintaining erosion control on the park's lawn 

4) Clearing off tree branches surrounding the park 

I, along with the other members, had all received shirts provided by the 92Y organization that were customized specifically for this event. During our time volunteering at the park, we had received a positive response from residents in the area such as multiple "Thank you's" and smiles. Realizing how our volunteer work had beautified this public park, we were all honored to take apart of this community service event.

The Teensgiving 2014 event will be crediting each volunteer six hours for their work on Sunday. 

Youth Council

YOUTH COUNCIL MEMBERS:

President: Alondra Lucero

Vice President: Areeb Sheikh

Secretary: Arman Khan 

Treasurer: Kayla Fernandez 

WHO WE ARE:

     The 2014-2015 Youth Council is a group of four council members who oversee and represent the HANAC ISY Program community. Each member had been voted by their own peers in the program after a month of campaigning that held official speeches and debates before Election Day. The Youth Council is composed of two members who have been in the program since last year and two members who are new this year. 

WHAT WE DO:

     The Youth Council is, first and foremost, responsible for the concerns that arise in the HANAC ISY community.  The Youth Council must provide solutions to these problems in order to maintain a peaceful and friendly environment in HANAC. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

1) Participating mandatory meetings at the end of each month to discuss our development as a team, what our accomplishments are and what we can improve for the next month.   

2) Be involved with every Service Learning Project that HANAC holds. This includes preparation of the project, participation throughout the project and successfully accomplishing the project as well.

3) Demonstrating leadership qualities in any event as the Youth Council represents the HANAC community as a whole.

4) Offering new ideas or concepts that will benefit the HANAC community.

HANAC ISY Program! 

Overview: 

This is the official blog post of the HANAC In-School Youth 2014-2015 Program. The blog does have an official Facebook group, but since everyone does not have access to that group, I have decided to launch a blog. Here everyone can exchange ideas, be informed with upcoming events/updates and also create memories along the way. 

Youth Council:  

Our 2014-2015 Youth Council is group composed of four members to represent the HANAC ISY Program community. The following members of the Youth Council are:

Each member has the responsibility to listen to the ideas and concerns of the HANAC ISY community and provide a solution for change.
